Medical Kit Dosages

Below you will find our comprehensive user guide for our emergency medical kits. Please feel free to bookmark and/or print this page for use with your medical kit. To maintain a “greener” footprint, we will no longer be providing print outs with each kit. Each medical kit has a shelf life of a minimum 2 years. Please exercise your best judgement in use of these products & always remember to shake before use.

Our yearly maintenance protocol includes safeguard liquid treatment to protect against parasites, tolturazil liquid treatment to prevent coccidia, and topical liquid ivermectin treatment to prevent fur and ear mites. We administer 1-2x a year for 1 day, or as needed at the regular dose series.

  • Bounce Back Electrolytes

    Use: electrolyte supplement for use in times of stress or dehydration
    Dose: 1-2 tbs/gallon water, 1 tbs/cup water in emergencies

  • Critical Care

    Use: recovery nutrition, aids in digestion for rabbits off feed
    Dose: 3 tbs/lb, mix 1:2 ratio with water. Can also be added to mashed banana or sweet potato baby food
    alternative brand with same dose: Sherwood Recovery Food

  • Go-Dry Penicillin

    Use: treatment for vent disease and mastitis
    Dose: apply small amount topically to affected areas as needed. Do NOT use orally.

  • Ivermectin (“ivomec”)

    Use: routine wormer treatment, for treating E. Cuniculi (wry neck), mites
    Dose: maintenance: .1cc/1lb by mouth, 1-2x/year
    For wry neck: On day 1 & 7 of 28 day Safeguard treatment, administer .1cc/lb ivomec by mouth
    For mites: 1-2 drops/lb between the shoulder blades and/or in ear base

    *Studies have shown that BEW rabbits & Mini Rex breeds may be sensitive to ivermectin.

  • Neomycin Sulfate

    Use: treats & prevents bacterial infections in the intestines, use when diarrhea, jelly poo, or mucoid enteritis present
    Dose: 2-5 drops by mouth as needed, 1 tsp/gallon water if treating multiple litters

  • Nutri-Drench

    Use: rapidly absorbed liquid nutrition supplement for rabbits off feed
    Dose: 1ml/3 lb by mouth every 8 hours as needed

  • Oasis Vita Drops

    Use: liquid vitamins for good gut flora, to be used after a round of antibiotics or bloat
    Dose: 2 drops/1 ounce water, can also be mixed with food or administered directly in mouth

  • Probios

    Use: supports microbial balance in the gastrointestinal tract, to be used after a round of antibiotics or when off feed
    Dose: paste: 1 generous pea-sized dollop, can be used 2x a day as needed. powder: 1-2 tbs/gallon water or lightly sprinkled on feed

  • Safeguard (pellet & liquid)

    Use: routine wormer treatment, also treats E. Cuniculi (wry neck)
    Dose: maintenance: 1 pellet/1 lb for 5 days, 1-2x/year
    Liquid: .2cc/1lb by mouth, 1-2x/year for 5 days on, 10-12 days off. May follow up with 2nd & 3rd treatment depending on worms present.
    For wry neck: treat daily for 28 days. On day 1 & 7, administer .1cc/lb ivomec by mouth

  • Simethicone (Gas X)

    Use: gas relief caused by bloat, jelly poos
    Dose: 1-2 ml by mouth, every 2-4 hours as needed. Snip the top of capsule and administer directly into the mouth.

  • Toltrazuril

    Use: coccidia prevention/treatment. This is the only medication known to completely eradicate all life stages of coccidia.
    Dose: .1cc/lb by mouth, once daily for 5 days

  • Vetericyn Eye Wash

    Use: used in treating nestbox eye and eye irritations
    Dose: flush eye generously, repeat 3-4 times daily as needed

  • VetRX

    Use: supports upper respiratory function, use in times of sneezing or congestion
    Dose: 1 drop directly in each nostril, 8 drops/gallon in water. Repeat 2-3 times a day or as needed. Warm product under hot water before use for best results.
